Newtown, a municipality of Cumberland county, New South Wales, Australia, 32 m. S.W. of Sydney. It consists chiefly of the residences of the wealthier citizens of Sydney and is connected with the city by rail and tram. As a municipality it dates from 1862. Pop (1901) 22,598.
